A Hex-a-long! Oh Hex! Why not? Lily's Quilts is having a Hex-a-Long, and I think that would be a marvelous use of all my sraps. After looking (drooling) over some of the hexies - I can't wait to get started! These hexies over on Gayle's blog are lovely, and I'm nuts about the QAYG hexies on Pings and Needles post, and these yummie beauties over at Freshly Pieced! Hmmmm! I'm definitely in!
I quick sketched my first two patterns, and pulled together my scraps . . .
My Hexies will have a scrappy look cuz I'm goin' through every draw, box, and bag and I'm gonna throw every scrap I have at it!
I've really been wanting to experiment with QAYG and sewing directly to the batting, like I've seen over on the Quilted Edge, so this is it. I started out my test block here with an oversized piece of batting . . .
after pressing and trimming, my test block - I'm happy with the dimensions, so I'm off and running! I'll make more of this block this week, and I'll try my second sketch pattern next week. Happy Hex-ing!
I think your hex quilt will be wonderful with all your scraps in it. I've been so intrigued by the QAYG method and may give that a go one of these days too. Sarah, your name seems so familiar to me, have we met online before? Thanks also for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment.
ReplyDeleteYes Terri, a couple of years back we were in an online group - I can't remember if it was quilting arts or fiber arts - something (brain's like a sieve) Ha! Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteWell that explains then why your name was familiar. I'm glad to know I'm not a total goner when it comes to my memory.
ReplyDeleteHi, great reading your post
